DRONE CLEANING FAQ

Drone cleaning questions, answered before you call.

Here is how the drone cleans, how we protect your glass and the people below, and what wind, cold and sun mean for your schedule. Ask us the rest: when you call, you get a real project manager.

One of our yellow-topped cleaning drones hovers beside a tall concrete building and sprays a jet of water across its window panes, a lime-green hose running down from it; rooftops and snow-capped mountains stretch out behind.

QUESTIONS

The questions we hear on every first call.

How does drone window cleaning work?

A tethered hose carries water and cleaning solution from our rig on the ground up to the drone, which sprays the glass from about ten feet away. Before the first flight we assess the site, set a safety perimeter and stage the water filtration; then the aircraft lifts off, works the glass in precise patterns and finishes with a rinse of purified water that dries spot-free.

What kind of drones do you fly?

Our cleaning drones fly on a tether: a hose from our rig on the ground carries the water and the cleaning solution up to the aircraft. We choose the aircraft for the building, the height and the site conditions; the method does not change.

Does the drone touch the glass?

No. Our tools are water pressure, cleaning chemistry, filtration and heat, and getting enough pressure and solution onto the glass is how we make up for being touch-free. It works best on glass that is cleaned regularly: dust, bird droppings, cobwebs and very light mineral stains come off, and we clean the sills as we go.

How do drones dry windows?

They don't need to. Our filtration system removes the minerals, impurities and debris that leave spots when water dries, so the purified rinse air-dries streak-free, with no squeegee and no residue.

Is drone window cleaning safe for the glass and for the people below?

Our window systems run around 900 to 1,500 PSI at the nozzle, sprayed from approximately ten feet away; the pressure that actually reaches the glass is significantly lower and comparable to an automatic car wash. Below the aircraft we mark a safety zone perimeter with caution tape, cones and barricades, put MUTCD standard signage on any sidewalk or street we work near, and station visual observers with the pilot.

Who flies the drone, and what rules apply?

A remote pilot flies the aircraft from the ground, and trained observers assist the pilot to maintain 360-degree situational awareness. Under the FAA's Part 107 rules, the remote pilot in command needs a remote pilot certificate with a small UAS rating, and a flight in the controlled airspace around an airport needs prior authorization from Air Traffic Control for that operation. The FAA certificates the remote pilot, not a company, and we treat that certificate as the floor, not the ceiling.

Do you need roof access, and will you disrupt my tenants?

In most cases roof access is not required. We fly from the ground, which keeps disruption to tenants and building operations to a minimum, and we review the site in advance to settle staging and access.

What happens in wind, cold or sun?

Wind decides the day. Sustained wind of 0 to 10 mph is ideal; 10 to 15 mph is case by case with a limited scope; 15 mph or more, or gusty, is a no-fly, and we build at least one buffer day into the schedule. We never work in direct sunlight, because chemistry drying on glass must be avoided. In winter we work above about 42 degrees Fahrenheit with heated purified water, and we postpone when freezing makes cleaning unsafe or ineffective.

Do you use chemicals, and where does the runoff go?

When a surface needs it, yes: surface-appropriate chemistry with purified water, chosen for the dirt, the material and the conditions. Whenever possible we clean with purified water only, which is how we keep the environmental impact down. On tough stains our FoamStream system clings longer and rinses spotless. Where city or state rules require it, we reclaim and dispose of the wastewater.

How high can you clean?

Send your building's height and access details to a project manager. We will confirm the cleaning method and plan for your property.

What if the windows have not been cleaned in years?

Heavy mineral staining or long-term neglect is beyond a maintenance wash: drone cleaning alone will not fully restore that glass. We recommend restoration first, by rope access or traditional methods, and once the glass is restored the drone comes back to keep it clean. At the hospital in Colorado Springs, five years of sun-baked scale took a slower restoration clean with hot water and more pressure, and the glass came out spotless.

Do you clean the inside of the glass too?

Yes. Interior window cleaning is one of our services, and our interior team can work in tandem with the drone, checking the glass from inside and calling out areas that need a touch-up.

How do you clean a building with glass, metal, brick and stucco?

Mixed surfaces call for surface-specific methods, and the plan sets the sequence before the first flight. In most cases the building wash comes before the windows, or both are coordinated in the same visit; at Empower Field at Mile High we cleaned the sooted metal sills and the glass in the same passes.

Will high pressure damage my facade?

We match the pressure to the surface. Delicate surfaces get a soft wash; high pressure, up to 4,000 psi, is for masonry, concrete and industrial surfaces, and the plan names the method for each surface before the first flight.

Why use hot water or steam drone cleaning instead of standard pressure washing?

Hot water and steam remove what cold water cannot dissolve: heavy grease, industrial pollutants and organic buildup like bird droppings. Our industrial drone cleaning systems are capable of delivering heated water between 100°F and 220°F, along with steam-assisted applications, and the heat lets us lean less on chemicals.

Can you clean a roof without anyone walking on it?

In most cases roof access is not required. We soft wash metal, asphalt, rubber, built-up, tile and terracotta roofs from the air. Soft washing is a low-pressure method.

Will cleaning scratch or damage my solar panels?

Solar panels need gentle cleaning, and ours is non-abrasive and contactless, with no harsh scrubbing. We use purified water, with a precisely diluted cleaning solution where the panels need it, and no harsh chemicals that could degrade your panels over time.

How much does drone window cleaning cost?

It depends on the building, so we quote every job on its own. The price moves with the building's size and height, its glass and facade, how heavy the buildup is, how easy the staging and access are, and how often you want it cleaned.

Can you put the building on a cleaning schedule?

Yes. Along with one-time washes, we offer scheduled cleaning services and spot cleaning, designed to maintain a building long-term.

How do I get a quote?

Send the details in the form below, or call +1 (866) 838-1555, and a project manager comes back with questions, then a plan.

Do you clean buildings outside Colorado?

Every case study we have published is a Colorado building. Phoenix, Los Angeles and Orlando are in progress, and the other U.S. markets we list are expansion markets. Send your building's details from any state, or call +1 (866) 838-1555, and a project manager will tell you what we can do in your area.
