What the press saw at the Stapleton tower.

BusinessDen came out to watch our drone at the former Stapleton control tower, now FlyteCo Tower, in March 2024, and asked whether drones are window cleaning 2.0. Here is what the story reported, and what it means for your building.

THE STORY

Window cleaning 2.0?

BusinessDen's Matt Geiger photographed our drone on the tower on Monday, March 18, 2024. His story, "Window cleaning 2.0? New firm showcases drone at old air traffic control tower," ran the next day.

The story explained the method plainly. A hose ran from the drone to a trailer on the ground that held the water and the cleaning solution. We walked the site first to spot hazards and measure the surfaces, washed with the cleaning solution, rinsed with deionized water and left the glass to air-dry.

THE TOWER

Why the tower made the case.

The tower is a hard building to clean by hand. As BusinessDen described it, horizontal slats block the windows on the first three floors, the stairwell and elevator shaft to the top are covered in windows, and the top of the tower has tight catwalks and angled glass.

FlyteCo's co-owner told the reporter the drone solved all of those problems. Months later, DroneLife called the job "a proof of concept" for our company.

FOX31 Denver's reporter came out to FlyteCo Tower for the station's story of April 17, 2024.

DRONES AND HAND CREWS

A touchless car wash, not a rival.

The story also asked where traditional window cleaners fit. Jay told BusinessDen he saw the drone as a complement to their work, not a competitor: "We are not their enemy." He compared drone cleaning to a touchless car wash and a hand crew to car detailing, the more thorough of the two.

We still work that way. If your windows carry heavy mineral staining or years of neglect, drone cleaning alone will not fully restore them. We recommend restoration first, by rope access or traditional methods, and the drone comes back to keep the glass clean.

Denverite watched the aircraft work at 164 feet. FlyteCo's co-owner told Denverite he believed the outside of the tower's windows had not been washed since the airport shut down in 1995.
