WHERE A LIFT CANNOT GO

At UCHealth Memorial Hospital Central in Colorado Springs, key sections of the glass had gone more than five years without a cleaning. Those sections had no roof anchors, so rope drops were impossible there, and a safety net about eight feet around the roofline kept any crew away from the edge.
The most demanding glass sat directly beneath the LifeLine helicopter team's active helipad, above a valet lane and some of the hospital's heaviest foot traffic. We flew it on a formal safety plan for any inbound helicopter.
THE RESTORATION
Five years of mineral scale, cleaned in two days.
The glass faced direct sunlight most of the day, and years of mineral deposits had baked into the surface, the kind of buildup that usually takes hands-on restoration. So we flew a restoration clean: hot water, a stronger solution mix, higher pressure than a maintenance wash and slower, repeated passes over each section of glass.
A rope access team and a ground crew covered the sections they could reach, the lower levels and the interior lobby windows among them, so every pane across the complex was addressed in a single mobilization.

Will drone cleaning disrupt patients and staff?
We fly from the ground, which keeps disruption to building operations to a minimum, and we schedule early-morning, after-hours or phased cleaning with your facilities team to avoid interrupting patient care. Ground coordinators keep pedestrian and vehicle traffic moving around a marked safety zone below the work.
Is drone window cleaning safe for the glass and for the people below?
Our window systems run around 900 to 1,500 PSI at the nozzle, sprayed from approximately ten feet away; the pressure that actually reaches the glass is significantly lower and comparable to an automatic car wash. Below the aircraft we mark a safety zone perimeter with caution tape, cones and barricades, put MUTCD standard signage on any sidewalk or street we work near, and station visual observers with the pilot.
Can you clean near a helipad?
Yes, on a plan written for it. At UCHealth Memorial Hospital Central we cleaned glass directly beneath an active medevac helipad: we kept constant radio contact with the LifeLine team, a team member monitored air traffic radio in real time, and a formal safety plan covered any inbound helicopter.
Who handles airspace authorization?
Airspace is part of our pre-flight: FAA Communication & Clearance and Restricted Airspace Approval are the first two items on our procedures list. In controlled airspace near an airport, air traffic control must authorize each operation before launch, and an authorization covers that one operation, never a standing permission.
Do you need roof access?
In most cases roof access is not required. At the hospital in Colorado Springs, key sections had no roof anchors, so rope drops were impossible there, and the drone reached the glass beneath the roofline net.
What if the windows have not been cleaned in years?
It depends on the glass, and we look before we quote. Heavy mineral staining or long-term neglect is beyond a maintenance wash, and sometimes beyond what drone cleaning alone can fully restore: then restoration by rope access or traditional methods may come first, and once the glass is restored the drone comes back to keep it clean. At the hospital in Colorado Springs we restored that kind of glass from the air: five years of sun-baked scale took slower, repeated passes with hot water and more pressure, and the glass came out spotless.
Do you clean the lower floors and the inside of the glass too?
Yes. Drones do the height, and our teams take the lower levels, the sills and the tough corners with standard cleaning. Interior window cleaning is one of our services too.
How long does a hospital job take?
It depends on the glass and the buildup. At UCHealth, the full restoration clean took two days, and the slower restoration passes took twice the time of a standard cleaning run. Your schedule comes with the plan, once we have seen the building.
